Extended Medical Degree Programme

Established in 2002, this ongoing project is managed by GKT School of Medical Education (the medical school of Kings College London). It aims to support and encourage students from deprived backgrounds to consider a career in Medicine.

The programme, which is oversubscribed every year, offers 25 funded places to inner city school students to study medicine.

Places are allocated based on the student’s potential to learn and their motivation to study Medicine rather than their A Level performance, and the course lasts for six years rather than the normal five to allow students to study at a slower pace.

To help students cope with the cost of going through medical school, the Damilola Taylor Trust provided financial support through Hardship Funds and Travel grants.
