Career Search and Skills Development 2018 – 2020

This free programme aimed to support young people aged between 16-25 from socially disadvantaged backgrounds with little or no work experience.

Over the course of three months, young people acquired the skills to make the transition into stable employment. Using innovative learning tools, they took part in 3 professional development days including a CV Clinic, an Interviews and Assessment Centre, and a Networking Clinic.

During the programme, the young people supported each other to overcome challenges and barriers. They also improved their skills in communication, job searching, undertaking interviews (including presentations) and CV writing.

The first programme was delivered in June 2018 and was funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. The second programme was sponsored by the Co-op and took place from September-December 2019 in partnership with HUDL and St Patrick’s College.

Following the programme, those interested in careers in retail or logistics had the opportunity to apply for an apprenticeship programme with The Co-op. 8 of the 25 participants were offered employment at the Co-op and one young person is now working for the food retailer Waitrose. 13 others joined the Aston Mansfield Youth for Youth Leadership Programme for further training.

Applications are now open for the I Am Change Career Search and Skills Development programme.
